Project description
After a four-year construction period, the power station, located in the Niederaussem suburb of the town of Bergheim, with its 200 metre-high cooling tower the highest in Europe was commissioned as the first brown coal power station with optimised system technology (BoA).
Were special solutions used?
In the imposing plant, OBO laid around 90 kilometres of cable tray cable routes with rising sections of up to 160 metres. The tight schedule demanded that 50 kilometres of the cable routes had to be installed within just nine months. At peak times, around 50 installers were working simultaneously.
The construction of the new block expanded the output of the power station by 966 MW. The modern technology used in the plant permits the exploitation of 43 per cent of the energy of the brown coal, instead of the 34 per cent up to then, and also to reduce CO2 emissions by 30 per cent.
